Super Moon*

Over 600 photos taken, 400 miles driven, 17 miles hiked, 3 days, and only 2 swear words used. !@#$ and $#@!.

When Meteorologist, Chris Tomer, emailed me the heads up on the Super Moon last week, I couldn’t wait to get started. The Super Moon happens once a year when the moons orbit is closest to the earth. Which means it can be 30% brighter and 14% larger than a normal full moon. While this is true, the Super Moon should come with a disclaimer… *Results may vary. Without getting into specifics, the moons appearance in terms of size, is an optical illusion called the Ponzo illusion. (look it up). So depending on where you are in the world, what’s in the foreground, etc… you may see something different. Just like my results that varied over the 3 days.

Still, it was bright, and beautiful, but very difficult to photograph. My adventures (indicated by wearing my North Face apparel) started locally and ended at an abandoned mine deep in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. And remember, if you like it, share it!

Sometimes you envision what the “Super Moon” will look like. Sometimes it doesn’t work that way. 🙂

Heading up Lookout Mountain just in time before it sank below the trees.

High on top of my secret location, clouds made viewing the “Super Moon” difficult.

Thanks to my friends and location scouts, Bill and Marlene, I was able to get some unique shots of the Super Moon from an abandoned mine.
