Today, I must have checked my iPhone more times than I can count. Hoping to see an email or voice mail announcing the winner of the Red Rocks Photography contest. Unfortunately, that message never came through. I did not win the contest.
May 1, 2011. Sitting in an empty amphitheater asking myself, “How do I photograph a place that has been photographed thousands of times, and still be unique?” For the next 5 months, I kept this question in the back of my mind every time I visited this beautiful rock formation. So I sat there studying, watching, and visualizing how was I going to pull this off.
Whether I pulled it off or not wasn’t up to me to decide. However, I will say that this project gave me something far greater than recognition and 4 tickets to a show. It allowed me to grow as a photographer and push myself to seeing things differently. And with that, I already won.
Thank you to my family and friends with all your comments of encouragement. It was truly a fun project and I enjoyed sharing it with you.
