One year. Thank you!

This week marked the one year anniversary of taking the plunge into photography. And I believe there is a thank you in order. To the great friends that have helped me along the way.

In April of 2009, I remember seeing this red tricycle chained to a street light in Venice Beach, California. I thought this was so unique, I took my cheap little point-and-shoot and started taking a bunch of photos. I donated a large print of it at a charity auction where in the final moments, two women ended up in a bidding war. Final price was $430. This was so exciting to watch and couldn’t believe that I actually photographed something that someone wanted.

Fast forward 2009-2010, I was starting to see photo opportunities that I would keep telling myself… “If only I had a better camera, if only I had a better camera.” So, I started talking to other photographers, getting opinions on equipment. Researching and watching craigslist for used equipment. Nov 2010, I finally found a like new Canon 5D Mark II with lenses. For my 1st camera, this was way out of my league. As shown in the very first photo I took of my dog, Moose. Sorry Moose, I was still learning.

Since then, you have seen most of my photography on this blog. And I couldn’t have done it without the friends I mentioned earlier. So I want to thank Haley Poulos and Greg Feldman. I met these two on a Eukanuba shoot and they do some great work. Thank you to Lindsay Bennett Kuntzi for talking shop with me and giving advice. She does some beautiful newborn and family photography. A big shout out to Randall Erkelens of Philosophy Communication for hosting FotoFriday’s. It’s where I feel I had learned the most, from shooting trains in a rail yard, to a model in a swimsuit. And of course, my friends and family who allow me to practice on them.

Stay tuned to find out what I’ve been working on this month. I can’t reveal too much now, but it’s an exciting opportunity that I can’t wait to share. You just might be able to buy it in stores soon!
