High Park Fire

I debated all week long if I should head on up to Fort Collins and take pictures of the High Park Fire. A friend of mine who lives in this beautiful town sent me a photo of what it looked like tonight. And with that, I said I’m on my way. I thought I’d head up to Carter Lake Reservoir and get some shots with the sun going down off the lake. But once I got there, I wasn’t happy with the location. So I decided to drive 18 miles closer to the fire, near Horesetooth Reservoir. I started to get a little worried. As I ways making my way up, a line of emergency vehicles where making their way down. Hmm… that’s not a good sign. But a few more miles in and the National Guard made sure I didn’t get any farther. And that’s OK by me! I didn’t need too! It’s very sad to see this in person and you can’t help to think about all the people that have been effected by the fire. My thoughts and prayers go out to them.

This is so scary. I used to live not far from where this fire is raging (a few miles west of Loveland, outside of Masonville). This is the worst fire in this area within recent memory, certainly within mine, which goes back to 1981. I’m glad you were able to photograph it with your usual skill and eye for detail. My thoughts are with the people and wildlife who are endangered–may those firefighters get this one under control fast!
