Founded in 1907, the small town known for its coal mine was originally named Fischbein. But was later changed to Gascoyne in 1908. Named after a construction foreman for the Milwaukee Road rail line that ran through town. By 1910, this beautiful, 4 room schoolhouse was built. Which was rather large for the area that only had a population of no more than 60. By 1930, the population topped at 97 people. Today, only 16 are left.

It’s so amazing to me how everything is left as it was and how time just seemed to stop at that very moment….kinda eery but peaceful at the same time. Thanks for sharing.
