Take a KitchenAid mixer, add some melted chocolate, and what do you get? Quite a mess!
The first challenge was to deal with all the reflective surfaces on the mixer. I was especially concerned about the chrome bowl. But as it turns out, that was the easy part. The hard part was finding the right consistency of chocolate, and setting the right speed on the mixer. “Does this thing go to 11?” Anyway… After all the testing I did, I was sure I’d get it in the first shot. Yeah… right. That’s what I was at least hoping for so I wouldn’t have a big mess on my hands. But multiple shots later, I was able to get the chocolate mess I was looking for to create my final composite.
A big shout out to my friend Erin BonSalle for letting me make a mess of her KitchenAid mixer. And a big thank you to Jack Gray for helping me out with the chocolate. Now, you know it wouldn’t be much fun if I didn’t post a behind the scenes video! Enjoy!

Here’s some aftermath pics and an un-retouched outtake as to what happens when you turn it up to 11. (well, in mixer terms, it only goes up to 10)

Thank you Robert!

Might have been a mess, but a lip smacking mess at that. All I want to know is who got to lick the bowl? 😉

I love it! What a great concept. The ribbons of chocolate are super cool. I wonder if that is what you imagined it would look like. I also like the red on red. Great job!

Thank you Chris! It’s close to what I imagined. It took many hours of trial and error to get the chocolate/speed of the mixer just right.
