Blood Moon

Blood Moon

One Blood Moon down and three more to go. So you still have a chance to catch it later in the year. Unless you want to wait for the next series in 2032. Armed with a Canon 600mm lens and a 2x extender, I had my alarm wake me at midnight and off I went to… well… the backyard. Exciting I know. Unfortunately, due to the position of the moon and 1200mm’s of optical fun, there wasn’t a place I can go to get something in the foreground. Like Red Rocks… So, I had to settle for one big moon. By 4am, I made my way back… well… to bed.

So why is it called the Blood Moon anyway? During the full eclipse, as some of the sun shines through the atmosphere, you are seeing everyone’s sunrises and sunsets from around the world. And that’s what gives the moon its red hue. The photo is a composite of three different stages of the moon.
