Next stop, Iowa. As I made my way North from the last abandoned schoolhouse in Kansas, I was headed to Des Moines to pick up a good friend, Eric, who joined me the rest of the trip. But on my way up, I just had to stop by the old school and do a little scouting. Prior to my trip, I was able to contact the owner of the property which he graciously gave me permission to photograph this beauty for the next couple of days.
There is not much documentation, but it is one of four rural schoolhouse in the county that sits on its original foundation. The last student to attend was in 1941, and it sold at a public auction in 1951. After a good nights rest in Des Moines, I picked up Eric after work and we headed back South to try and catch the sunset. And we made it with 15 minutes to spare!
After the sun went down, we stayed at a near by motel. It was an ok place but had good coffee. And we were gonna need it to get up at the crack-ass of dawn and take sunrise photos. And luck would have it, another moon!
Thanks to Eric, he was able to capture a few behind the scenes pics. And I got a few of him too. Always a good time!
