Abandoned Drive In. Well… until 9pm anyway.

The Comanche Drive-In Theater I’m sure has seen its fair share of movies, and its better days since 1967. The old make-out place nestled in the Rocky Mountains of Buena Vista, Colorado, accommodates 210 vehicles with steamed-up windows. After much research and confirming with friends, the theater had been abandoned since 2007. Perfect! I got to go photograph it!

Friday night, I packed up my gear and headed to my favorite cabin in the mountains for the weekend. Once I arrived, I received an email from a friend of mine who has a place near the Drive-In which read: “Dude. Theater is actually open showing time bandits at 9pm tonight.” (insert long pause here) Huh… (insert laughing here)

Being wide awake right before the 5am alarm went off, I was excited to go photograph the theater, abandoned or not. And once I got there, I was not disappointed. In fact, there was a small storm coming in over the mountains which added to the drama. And you know me… love working with more than just blue skies. The storm moved out just as fast as it moved in and I was happy with the shots I got. Next up… do little exploring behind the theater. Share it if you like it!
